“Arts in the Park!” showcases local arts organizations
Are you new to the area and wondering what there is to do around here? Have you exhausted your old hobbies during the pandemic? Tired of tie-dye and sourdough bread and craving something new to try?
The Lewisburg Arts Council invites you to drop by Hufnagle Park (S. Sixth St., Lewisburg) on Saturday, May 1, from 11 am to 3 pm, and check out “Arts in the Park!” … a different kind of “arts fair,” one that showcases local arts organizations.
Although many arts organizations have been less visible lately due to the pandemic, it doesn’t mean they’ve gone away. And they are looking forward to engaging community members in arts activities in the near future.
To learn about the participating groups’ current activities and plans for the future, simply stop by their tables set up in the park.
Child-friendly make-and-take activities will be available courtesy of the Lewisburg Children’s Museum and The Exchange of Bloomsburg.
Come and find out how to connect with local arts organizations that interest YOU!
This event will be held outdoors. Please dress accordingly.
If the weather is inclement, “Arts in the Park!” will be held Saturday, May 8, from 11 am to 3 pm. If a postponement is required, this will be announced on the Arts Council’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LewisburgArtsCouncil, and website, http://lewisburgartscouncil.com/, and emailed to Arts Council members on or before April 30th.
Masks and social distancing are required.

Curious about the murals that are adding artistic flair to Lewisburg’s “Modern Art Alley”?
As part of the Lewisburg Arts Council’s annual two-week “Celebration of the Arts,” local artist Jim Reid will offer free, small-group guided tours of his murals to art-lovers of all ages
Each 45-minute tour will offer a behind-the-scenes peek as Reid demonstrates his process, talks about the artists and places that inspired his designs, and answers your questions.
Reid splits his time between Lewisburg and Barcelona, Spain, where he creates his compelling and thought-provoking art. Come and learn how the city of Barcelona inspired one of the murals!
Tours will be scheduled at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, and 2 pm on Saturday April 24; Saturday, May 1; and Saturday, May 8; when you register, choose the date and time that suits your schedule.
Registration is required. To take advantage of this unique opportunity, register using our Workshop Registration form by clicking the button below.
Each tour will be limited to 3-8 guests. Face masks and social distancing are required. Tours will be held outdoors, please dress for the weather. They begin at the corner of North Third Street and Cherry Alley behind All-Star Bagel, next to Gram’s Eatery. Note that the tours will require walking a short distance (about half a block).
If inclement weather requires a cancellation or date change, all registered participants will be notified by email the day before.
Plein Air Event
Join us Sunday, April 25 for the 7th Annual Plein Air Event sponsored by the Merrill Linn Conservancy, the Lewisburg Arts Council, and the Lewisburg Artists’ Guild. What is plein air? A drawing or painting done outdoors, rather than in a studio. The French term en plein air translates to ‘in the open air.’ The goal of this event is to preserve, with our artwork, a present moment at various Linn Conservancy sites. In sharing our work, we seek to build a community of artists and citizens passionate about the preservation of these sites for future generations.
- Workshop (optional) from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. with artist David McSween, at the Dale-Engle-Walker property,1471 Strawbridge Rd., Lewisburg. Registration required. Maximum: 20 participants. Register here!
- Artists can attend the workshop and then draw or paint, or go straight to one of the four Linn Conservancy sites, which will be available to artists through May 2:
- Dale-Engle-Walker House, 1471 Strawbridge Road, Lewisburg
- Koons property, North 4th Street, Mifflinburg PA 17844, at the historic Hassenplug Covered Bridge
- 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. – you are invited to return to the Dale-Engle-Walker House to share and view art created during the day even if unfinished.
- Click here for Plein Air Event guidelines.
Artists have the opportunity to display their artwork online from Monday, May 10 through Friday, June 11, 2021.
- Any work done during the Plein Air Event on April 25 and through May 2 at any of the four Linn Conservancy protected sites: the DEW property, the Koons Property, the Shamokin Mountain Trail, and the Shikellamy Bluffs is eligible for inclusion. Please see the 2021 Plein Air Site Descriptions.
- Instructions about how to photograph and display artwork is included in the 2021 Online Plein Air Event Show Guidelines – click here.
