SUMMARY:Poetry: Pictures in the Mind
DESCRIPTION:Poetry has been called the “language of the soul.” Workshop participants will have an opportunity to learn a variety of strategies for brainstorming, visualizing, composing, and editing different forms of poetry.\nAfter brief discussion about the possibilities, myths, and mechanics of poetry, we will have hands-on practice. For this, we’ll use creativity prompts and consider diverse subjects such as nature, sensory experience, human relationships, emotional challenges, epiphanies, and spirituality. We will also look at a few ancient and modern (but easy) examples and envision various purposes for a single poem. Unlock your own poetic voice, which is like nobody else’s.\nAdditionally, we will look at the visual aspects of poetry, perhaps with practice in combining poetic or linguistic elements within other art forms.\nPresenter’s Bio\nMark Nielsen is a freelance writer, teacher, filmmaker, sculptor, and multi-hyphenate artist from Chicago, IL. He has worked as a documentary film producer; a writing, drama, and P.E. teacher (grades K through college); a mall Santa Claus; and a marketing writer.
