DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the timeless art of black and white photography. Stripping away color forces us to think differently — about light, shadow, texture, and contrast — and often reveals the emotion and structure of a scene in ways that color can mask. Whether you’re new to B&W or looking to sharpen your technique, this session has something for everyone.\nWe’ll Cover:\n\nWhy shoot in black and white — the artistic case for going monochrome\nSeeing in B&W: training your eye to read light, contrast, and tonal range\nIn-camera vs. post-processing: shooting in B&W mode vs. converting color RAW files\nKey editing techniques: tonal adjustments, contrast, dodging and burning\nClassic B&W subjects and what makes them work\nTips for printing and displaying monochrome images\n\nAs always, bring your camera if you’d like to share recent shots, and come ready to discuss what draws you to (or makes you curious about) black and white. We look forward to seeing you there!\nPhoto Challenge: This month we have two challenge options — pick one (or both)!\nOption 1 — Aperture: Take a photo where aperture was a deliberate creative choice. Wide open for a soft, blurry background? Stopped down for front-to-back sharpness? It’s up to you. It doesn’t need to be anything specific, just a shot where you intentionally used aperture to get the result you wanted.\nOption 2 — Red, White & Blue: Capture an image inspired by red, white, and blue — whether that’s a patriotic scene, everyday objects, or something more abstract. Have fun with it!\nWhichever option you choose, submit your photo to photoclub@lewisburgartscouncil.com ( mailto:photoclub@lewisburgartscouncil.com ) at least 2 days before the meeting.
