Fun with Percussion for Children
Join us for an exciting 3-part series where children will explore the world of percussion instruments through hands-on learning and sensory engagement. In this interactive experience, kids will have the opportunity to discover a variety of hand percussion instruments, creating rhythms, and making music together in a fun and supportive environment.
Throughout the series, children will learn about different percussion instruments and how to play them, developing the ability to create unified and layered rhythms with a variety of songs. They’ll also have the chance to express how it feels to play an instrument and be part of a percussion ensemble. Additionally, they will begin reading simple musical rhythms, laying the groundwork for future learning, whether on an instrument or through singing.
The series consists of three 1-hour sessions. While each session builds on concepts introduced in the previous ones, students are welcome to join at any point. The class is designed for children ages 7-10, and participants must be able to read numbers and letters. No prior music experience is necessary. The class size is limited to 12 students to ensure individual attention.
The instructor, Carolyn, brings 50 years of percussion experience to the class. Originally from Pittsburgh, she has lived in Mifflinburg for 21 years. Throughout her career, she has performed in local bands, played in musicals, and most recently organized and hosted Rusty Rail’s Monday Night Jams. Carolyn has also taught private drum lessons to children ages 7-14 and is excited to share her love of music with your child.
