Drawing of buildings, people and vehicle in urban sketching style.

Outdoor Sketching in Lewisburg

Join us for three summer evenings of sketching historic Lewisburg! We’ll start each session at The Gallery, then head out to sketch the town’s streets, buildings, and any location that catches our eye.

You’ll learn the basics of composition, proportion, perspective, and capturing outdoor light, with a focus on seeing—and drawing—in your own way.

Urban sketching isn’t about creating perfect drawings. Mistakes, quirks, and unexpected lines are welcome—they’re what give your sketches personality and life. It’s about capturing what you see in the moment with immediacy and momentum.

Beginners and experienced artists are welcome to join and sketch with the tools they’re most comfortable using. Come as you are, and draw what moves you.

About Your Instructor

Mark Heid spent four years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and two years studying with noted painter Nelson Shanks. His training covered foundational painting skills, including anatomy, color theory, composition, and historical painting techniques. Mark sketches every day and believes art is a skill anyone can benefit from, regardless of experience level, and loves to teach it.

There will be paper and pencils available or participants can bring their own sketchbook.
