Photo Club – ‘Flash Photography’
New location!
St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg.
Join us in November for a hands-on session on flash photography, just in time for the holidays! Family gatherings, indoor sports, school concerts, recitals, pageants, and other events often mean shooting indoors in dim or uneven light. November’s meeting will be a working demonstration to help you handle those situations with confidence. We’ll cover when flash helps and when it hurts, bouncing and diffusing light so faces look natural instead of washed out, balancing flash with a room’s existing light so backgrounds don’t go dark, freezing motion at indoor games and performances, and getting the most out of the built-in flash on your camera or phone. Since many performances and pageants don’t allow flash, we’ll also share tips for getting good low-light shots without it.
Bob will have some equipment on hand to demonstrate with, but we encourage everyone to bring a camera. A DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot, or cell phone will all work. You’ll learn the most by shooting along with us!
Photo Challenge:
This month’s photo challenge: put October’s Wildlife Photography meeting to work and capture an animal in its element. Backyard birds, squirrels, deer, a neighbor’s chickens, or even your own pets all count. Try using some of the techniques we covered, such as patience, a fast shutter speed, or focusing on the eyes.
Submit your photo to photoclub@lewisburgartscouncil.com at least 2 days before the meeting. We’ll display them for the group, and photographers will have a chance to share a little about their image—what drew them to the shot or how they captured it.
