Photo Club – ‘Exposure: Shutter Speed’
This month, we dive into one of the most powerful creative tools in your camera bag — shutter speed. Whether you want to freeze a hummingbird’s wings, paint light across a dark sky, or capture spectacular fireworks, understanding how shutter speed works is essential to getting the shot you envision. We’ll cover the fundamentals, explore the boundaries, and get hands-on with techniques you can start using right away.
Be sure to bring your camera for a hands-on demonstration. All skill levels welcome!
What We’ll Cover:
- Shutter speed used in photos, both fast and slow
- Shutter speed limitations
- Techniques for slow shutter speed photography
- Fireworks photography, for a 4th of July fireworks photo walk.
- Milky Way galaxy/star photography for an upcoming photo walk (trip) this summer, either June, July, or August, weather permitting.
Photo Challenge: For this month’s challenge, take a photo using a compositional rule — and be creative with it! Submit your photos ahead of the meeting, and we’ll display them for the group. Photographers will have the chance to share a little about their image — what drew them to the shot or how they captured it.
Photos can be emailed to photoclub@lewisburgartscouncil.com and should arrive at least 2 days before the meeting so we’re all set for sharing time.
