Trees are Poems the Earth Writes upon the Sky

Trees are Poems the Earth Writes upon the Sky

Loanne Snavely has paintings of trees that she has done on display in Gallery 255 at the Public Library for Union County. Her opening reception was Tuesday, July 2, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Her artist statement about the show: I am drawn to nature, especially landscapes, gardens, flowers and trees. Living plants fill me with their beauty: the line of a branch, the curve of a leaf, the delicacy of a flower. A beautiful tree thrills me, and lures me to paint it. Nearly all of my work is done en plein air, or directly from life outdoors. The series of Sycamore tree paintings has evolved over a number of years through the Lewisburg Arts Council’s plein-air painting events. Each year I spend time exploring Dale’s Ridge searching for my “subject”. Each year I am again drawn to the marvelous beauty of the sycamore trees in their early spring glory. I have, on occasion, been attracted to the bluebells and other wildflowers, and have captured them with pastels, watercolors, and pen and ink drawings. However, the strong bold lines of the sycamores inevitably draw me back to the easel – and I paint one or several of them once more. This show also includes portraits of other trees that have called out to me and demanded recognition. Trees are so elegant in their never-ending forms, angles, branching, sprouting, blooming, reaching for the sky. I offer you trees.

The event is finished.
