Visible Mending Workshop
This January, join us for a course on reinvigorating your knitwear. In this fun and creative workshop, you will learn techniques to breathe new life into old clothing, using fiber arts to turn your old knitwear into eye-catching creations that reflect your individuality. We will learn to employ several methods, including visible mending (a method of repairing fabric in a way that highlights—not hides—the mended areas) and duplicate stitch (a knitting technique where a decorative design is created by embroidering over the existing knit). I will share examples of how these techniques can be used to bring character to knitted items, and together we will practice several techniques on knit swatches, and then you’ll be able to begin planning how to add vibrant, eye-catching designs to a knitwear item of your own.
Lilly Kelly, a college senior, is a lover of sheep and natural fibers. She seeks out wool garments, especially the ones broken-in and soft. She can often be seen extending the life of her vintage finds by personalizing them with colorful, hand-stitched art.
This beginner-friendly class focuses on creative expression, not perfection! No experience is necessary, but having some experience in fiber arts crafts is encouraged. This class meets on Saturday, January 25th from 1:00-3:30pm. Supplies are included. Suitable for ages 14+. Maximum number of students is 12. Registration is required, the deadline to register is January 20, 2025
